Helping Students Further Their Education

2025 Character Scholarships

Since 2004, the Frenship Foundation for Leadership has proudly awarded Frenship High School and Reese Education Center students with Character Scholarships totaling more than $1 million. Through these scholarships, the Frenship Foundation recognizes students who exemplify exceptional character, leadership, and service to others.

In the spring of 2004, the Frenship Foundation organized an annual golf tournament—The Drive for Leaders—as a major fundraiser for the student scholarship program. Each year, the Character Scholarship recipients are recognized in front of donors at the annual golf tournament.

How to Apply

Class of 2025 applications open February 3, 2025, and close March 14, 2025.

  1. The Foundation Character Scholarship is based on the following criteria:
  • Character: Promptly fulfilling individual pledges and responsibilities; demonstrating high standards of honesty and fairness; cooperating with rules and regulations; upholding principles of morality and ethics.
  • Leadership: Evidence of participation and/or holding offices in extracurricular activities (in/out of the school environment); positive influence on friends and classmates; assuming responsibility for tasks.
  • Service: Evidence of serving at school or in the community through nonprofit or recreational activities, places of employment, or with family/friends.

This application includes six sections:

  1. Applicant Information
  2. Service and Character Involvement Lists
  3. Leadership and Character Short Essays
  4. FHS Teacher Evaluation Form (Must be a current FHS instructional staff member such as teacher or coach)
  5. Outside Recommendation Form (Cannot be a current FHS employee or family member)
  6. GPA

All six sections of the online scholarship application must be completed to submit the application. Please note, both recommendation forms must be completed before the student can submit the final application. We encourage students to submit the recommendation requests early to provide plenty of time for the teachers and outside recommenders to complete the required form. If any tasks are left incomplete, the student will not be able to submit the application.

Scoring:

The Frenship Foundation Student Scholarship Committee will score all eligible applications in late March. All student names are redacted and replaced with a Personal ID Number prior to being scored by the judges.

Scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2025 and given further instructions regarding next steps. Scholarships will be distributed upon proof of enrollment in a trade school or higher education institution within two years of graduation from FHS. Funds are distributed directly to the institution.
